Frye Campus Maxine Boots - Are They Worth the Price?
By Tonya Brisnehan

The retail price for a pair of Frye Campus Maxine boots is around $300. For a number of women this may be too high of a price tag in the first place, while other women are willing to pay the price for a superb quality in a women's boot with a sleek, classic look.

Regardless of what category you might fall into as a shopper, here are a few things to keep in mind prior to purchasing the Campus Maxine:

Heel Area: Based on consumer reviews that I studied, this boot has a rather narrow toe area compared to the heel. For some women this was a problem due to the fact that if they ordered a size that would fit them in the toe area the heel slipped around some. Based on this information this may not be the right boot if you have a wider upper foot or toe area.

Solutions for above: There are a couple of ways to solve the heel issue with these boots - one solution for the slippage in the heel area is wearing thicker socks (unless this makes it too confining in the toe area). Another solution is to purchase a slightly smaller size and have them stretched a bit in the right places which is a simple and low cost way to handle the issue - ending up with a boot that fits just right.

Break in time: There is reportedly a break in period for these boots in order to soften up the leather. This is not uncommon with western boots but is something could be helpful to know prior to purchasing them. The best method of getting through a break in period is wearing the boots for a short time at first then increasing the amount of time each wear.

Note on the price: One thing to keep in mind on a purchase of the Frye Campus Maxine boot is the fact that various merchants who carry them often offer markdown prices or offer sales on various colors. There also very well may be discount merchants who consistently have them in stock for lower prices than retail.

Overall I would recommend a purchase for the Frye Campus Maxine despite the few reports of the fitting. They are a beautiful boot - a good description of them would be "a more feminine version of the Classic Frye Campus". Gorgeous leather, general style and overall very nice reviews from the ladies who wear them.
